request an appointmentWhat is cataract surgery?
Cataract surgery is a procedure that removes your cloudy lens and replaces it with a clear artificial lens, also called an intraocular lens (IOL).
The team at Advanced Eye Center offers many IOL options to best meet your vision. Types of IOLs include:
Monofocal IOLs
Monofocal IOLs correct distance vision only. You may need to wear reading glasses if you get monofocal IOLs and have age-related nearsightedness (presbyopia).
Multifocal IOLs
Multifocal IOLs have both near and far vision correcting focusing powers, reducing your need for glasses.
Aspherical IOLs
Aspherical IOLs, also called HD lenses, have near and far focusing power and offer the clearest vision correction available.
Accommodative IOLs
Accommodative IOLs allow you to focus at different distances by moving or changing the shape in your eye.
Toric IOLs
Toric IOLs are for people with astigmatism — a refractive vision error due to an abnormal curve of the eye.
Monovision
Monovision gives you distance vision in one eye and near vision in the other.
Your cataract surgeon at Advanced Eye Center explains the types of IOLs available so you can get the best outcomes from your surgery.
When should I consider cataract surgery?
The team at Advanced Eye Center says it’s time to consider cataract surgery when glasses or contact lenses no longer provide adequate vision correction. If you have cataracts and find it difficult to drive at night or in the rain, it’s time to schedule a consultation at Advanced Eye Center.
What happens during cataract surgery?
Your provider at Advanced Eye Center reviews the details of your cataract surgery at your pre-surgical consultation. They offer two types of cataract surgeries:
Standard phaco-emulsification
For the standard phaco-emulsification procedure, your eye surgeon uses an ultrasound unit to soften the lens so they can remove it with a tiny incision.
Laser-assisted cataract surgery
Laser-assisted cataract surgery is a bladeless procedure that uses a laser tool to make very precise and tiny incisions when removing the lens.
After removal of your lens, your eye surgeon implants the IOL.
You and your eye surgeon at Advanced Eye Center determine what method is best for you.
What can I expect after cataract surgery?
The Advanced Eye Center team gives you specific at-home care instructions following your cataract surgery to support healing. You should notice improvements in your vision right away, but you will need to make modifications to your usual activities (exercise, driving) until your provider says otherwise.
